Intracellular electrophysiology; extracellular electrophysiology: LFP, MEA. Imaging: VSD; optogenetics; microiontophoresis. Biological preparations; Modeling in collaboration with Alain Destexhe's team.
Two main themes characterize the Homeostasis, Perception and States team at NeuroPSI. These research topics, Claustrum-cortex oscillations and Homeostatic synaptic plasticity, are original, invented and carried out in our team. We have developed at NeuroPSI an ex-vivo claustrum-cortex brain slice preparation containing synaptically interacting claustrum and cortex neural networks producing a novel network oscillation that could be involved in large-scale synchronization mechanisms in the brain. Electrophysiological and optogenetic approaches at the cellular and network scales make it possible to finely dissect the mechanisms of this oscillatory activity. The homeostasis of synaptic transmission at the neuromuscular junction (lead G. Ouanounou) is studied in vertebrates (xenopus, mice). We have shown for the first time the existence of calcium sensor mechanisms (eLife 2016), which could have potential medical implications for neuromuscular pathologies.
